Rehabilitation Programs

What is Rehabilitation?

It enables residents to make the most of their abilities rather than focus on their illness or disability. Our rehab team includes the Physiotherapist, Physiotherapy Aide, Restorative Personal Support Worker, nursing staff, and families. The team aims to help each resident to maintain his/her dignity, self esteem, and independence. Rehab programs promote the highest level of functioning that a resident can attain through walking, exercise, restorative programs or through optimal communication and social interaction between staff and residents.

Physiotherapy programs are offered 5 days a week,
Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m – 4:30 p.m.

Restorative Nursing

Restorative nursing is person-centred nursing care designed to improve or maintain the functional ability of residents, so they can achieve their highest level of well-being possible. Our goal is to enhance the resident’s ability to adapt and adjust to living as independently and safely as possible.” This approach supports the person’s achievement and maintenance of optimal physical, mental, and psychosocial functioning daily.

What Is Restorative Nursing?

Yes, restorative nursing is a program and each resident will have interventions and goals, but restorative nursing is more than just a plan of care. It is a way of looking at the individual’s care and identifying what:

  • Does that person do?

  • Can that person do?

  • Will that person do?

A restorative program helps residents practice activities of daily living to improve, or at least maintain, overall functioning.

Restorative programs are offered daily.

Rehab Admission Process

Upon admission to Watford Quality Care Centre every resident participates in a thorough mobility assessment to determine current level of functioning. If assistive devices are needed, it will be determined at this time. An individualized therapy program is then designed to meet the current goals and needs of the resident. This program will be carried out with the assistance of the rehab team. Continual monitoring occurs to ensure success of the prescribed goals and absolute safety of the resident. Reassessments of a resident’s functional status are performed by the Physiotherapist on a quarterly basis to meet the changing needs of the resident.

The team works closely with the resident and family to assist in meeting their needs and developing safe and realistic goals. The length of the rehab program depends on the resident’s condition, progress towards goals and quarterly reassessments. The rehabilitation program focuses on ability, strengths and potential. Watford Quality Care Centre offers programs for conditions including: CVA, Parkinson’s, MS, fractures, contractures, amputees, re-motivation, arthritis, etc.
